Home-Start Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells was begun in 1993. We expanded our area into Malling in January 2000 and became Home-Start South West Kent.
We are part of a national organisation but Home-Start South West Kent is an independent charity based within the community. Home-Start South West Kent is managed by a committee made up of local representatives from relevant agencies, and individuals with specialist skills.
The mission of Home-Start South West Kent is to enable and empower parents to give their children the best possible start in life. It is a family support charity offering regular support and practical help to any family with at least one child under 5, who are experiencing stress and difficulty. This may be due to a range of factors, from isolation or mental health issues to domestic violence and relationship breakdown.
Home-Start South West Kent provides a service, which is locally based with volunteers from the whole of South West Kent and in this way helps families to integrate with their community and all that the community offers. Children, parents and the wider community all benefit from Home-Start South West Kent’s work.
Our charity’s aims and objectives are:
- To safeguard, protect and preserve the good health, both mental and physical of children and parents of children
- To prevent cruelty to, or maltreatment of, children
- To relieve sickness, poverty and need amongst children and parents of children; and
- To promote the education of the public in the better standards of child care especially within the County of Kent
You could make a real difference to families in South West Kent by either volunteering to be a home-visiting volunteer, or by supporting our fundraising efforts.
